Having a good night’s sleep has been linked to healing the body. It is when we sleep that our bodies detox. While we sleep our bodies regenerate at a cellular level. Sleep also gives our mind time to work through the day’s events. That being said, we now know, missing out on sleep can lead to a shorter, less healthful life. Yet, as important as sleep is, we often sacrifice our sleep, by staying up late.

Others may understand how important sleep can be but, have difficulty falling or staying asleep. To help all of you get the ZZZZs you need, here are some good night’s sleep tips:

  • Set a regular schedule. Attempt to go to bed and wake up at the same time each day.
  • Turn off all technology at least an hour and a half prior to going to bed. Technology dis-regulates your system and can confuse your natural sleep cycle.
  • Stand outside in the moon light (barefoot is best). This practice resets your body’s natural sleep cycle.
  • Drink some warm milk (nut milk works the same) add some nutmeg, turmeric, and honey.
  • Message your feet with some olive or sesame oil.
  • Take a warm bath with Epsom salts. The magnesium will help you relax.
  • Before you head to bed, write in your journal. List items you are thankful for.
  • Write down items that are niggling at you- things on your to-do list so, you are able to let them go.
  • Do some breath work. Using your thumb, hold close your right nostril. Slowly breathe in and out using only your left nostril.
  • Support your sleep practice with some herbal teas:
    • chamomile
    • skullcap
    • passion fruit
    • Valerian
    • hops
  •  These herbs can also be used in a sachet under your pillows.
